Time Change Have You Feeling Off?

Daylight Saving Time happened this weekend, and if you’re feeling a little off—tired, foggy, or just not quite like yourself—you’re not alone.

Our bodies and brains like rhythm. When the clock suddenly shifts, even by just an hour, it can throw off our internal timing system—our circadian rhythm. Sleep, mood, energy, focus… they can all feel a little wobbly for a few days. That’s a very normal nervous system response to change.

And the truth is, many of us don’t love sudden change in general. Our nervous system is designed to look for predictability and safety. When routines shift—even small ones like the clock—it asks us to recalibrate.

But this particular change also arrives alongside something meaningful: the transition toward spring.

Nature is shifting too. Days are getting longer. Light is returning. Trees begin budding, flowers pushing up through the soil, and the world is slowly waking up again. Spring reminds us that change, while uncomfortable at times, is also where growth lives.

Just like nature, we are constantly adjusting and renewing.

So if this week feels a little slower or heavier, give yourself permission to ease into it.

...

A few gentle ways to support your nervous system this week:

🌞 Get morning light when you can. Natural light helps reset your internal clock.

🚶 Take a short walk outside to help your body recalibrate. Even 5–10 minutes helps signal your brain that a new rhythm is beginning.

💧 Hydrate and move gently. Drink a glass of cold water first thing in the morning and get plenty of water throughout the day. Stretching, light movement, or even a few deep breaths can help your body regulate.

😴 Give yourself extra sleep grace if your body feels tired while adjusting.

🧘 Pause for a 60-second reset. Take a slow inhale through your nose and a longer exhale through your mouth a few times to settle your nervous system.

📵 Limit late-night screen time when possible. Less blue light in the evening can help your sleep cycle adjust more smoothly.

🌿 Spend a moment noticing spring. Look for signs of new growth outside. Even brief moments of noticing beauty can calm and regulate the nervous system.

🤍 Lower the bar a little this week. Change takes energy. Giving yourself a little extra compassion and flexibility can make the adjustment easier.

Small adjustments help your nervous system settle back into rhythm.

And as we move toward spring, it’s also a quiet invitation: to notice what new energy, growth, or possibility might be emerging in your own life.

Change can be uncomfortable. But it can also be the beginning of something beautiful.

Be gentle with yourself this week. Your system is simply adjusting.

If you find yourself in the place of unbalance, here are some practical tools to use.

Cultivate compassion

  1. Recognize: I’m having a hard time.

  2. Remind: This is part of being human.

  3. Comfort: I will choose to be kind to myself (loving gesture i.e. hand to your chest)

  4. Acknowledge: I give myself the compassion I need.

Be guided to imagine a place that brings you peace and calm and recall a person that offers you love and kindness. The purpose of this visualization is to imagine what compassion might feel like so you can access that feeling during difficult times.

Learning breathing techniques allows for the ability to have tools to utilize any place or anywhere. Here is a breathing technique for when you feel off balance.
